EFC 124: A Development Card

Written by on June 4, 2025

The drain of EFC talent is becoming more and more evident particularly with the recently announced debut of PFL Africa, set to take place in Cape Town on June 19.

None more evident than the main event at EFC 124, where, in order to keep the alure of both the organisation as well as the division alive, the EFC Middleweight Champ, Zaakir Badat (7-2) will battle second-choice Segun Ogunnoki (6-4).

Ogunnoki is making his EFC debut – with a record of 2-3 in his last 5 outings – and he gets this title shot coming off a UD loss at AKO 7!

This writer previously wrote about the fact that the EFC are no longer the pre-eminent MMA promotion on the African continent and the fact that Ogunnoki – who has a record of 2-2 in AKO – is getting an immediate title shot should need no further explaination.

The loss of talent to the PFL is likely to ramp up following their inaugural event, with no fewer than six EFC roster athletes jumping ship for the PFL’s Champions Series event.

Other than the title fight, the EFC 124 is a development card, lacking any real talking points other than former title challenger Vince Bembe being relegated to prelim card status.
